COVID-19 FAQ

Is Camp Keir running this summer?

Yes, the Government of Prince Edward Island announced that Day Camps are permitted to open under Phase 3 of the Renew PEI Together Plan. Overnight Summer Camps have not yet been given the go ahead to run. With this in mind, Camp Keir has decided to run day camp programming only.

What does this mean?

We know that by switching to Day Camp only this will mean that Camp Keir will not be an option for some families this summer, whether it be due to time constraints or distance. While we are disappointed to not run Camp as normal, we are excited to be able to offer something for our campers who have had so many things cancelled and rescheduled during these difficult months.

What if my child is already registered?

If your child is already registered for Summer 2020 you have one of 4 options:

  1. Review you registration and select the day camp of your choice.
  2. If camp is not an option for you this summer choose to roll your registration fee over into summer 2021.
  3. If you are able you can also choose to donate your payment partially or fully to Camp. This helps us contribute to the operation of Camp in these very trying times.
  4. You may also request a full refund by emailing campkeir@gmail.com

What will Camp look like?

In accordance with the Public Health Measures, Camp Keir will be following outdoor mass gathering guidelines of 20 person groups. These groups will be called Keir Clans and will have 15 campers and 3-4 staff. Campers will remain in their Keir Clan, moving from activity to activity throughout each day at camp. Due to the ever-changing nature of the COVID-19 situation and guidelines these procedures are subject to change in order to align with current Public Health guidelines.

Will there be physical distancing?

Yes, physical distancing in each Keir Clan will need to be maintained as best as possible unless Public Health Measures change in this regard.

What health measures are being taken throughout the day?

In addition to the measures already mentioned, some noteworthy practices include: staff will wear face masks in any instance where physical distancing cannot be maintained to safely run an activity. (ie: serving lunch or another activity in very close contact.) Campers will be instructed at the beginning of the day and reminded regularly of good hygiene practices (ie. hand washing, coughing/sneezing into a tissue or elbow, physical distancing.) We have instituted strict cleaning and disinfecting procedures so all program equipment will be sanitized after use by a group.

Is it safe?

We believe we have taken every precaution to ensure the safety of our Campers and staff this summer. We will have dedicated staff to ensure the cleaning and sanitizing of each area of Camp and we have developed a comprehensive operational plan.

What will Day Camp look like?

Each day drop off and pick up will have measures in place to allow for physical distancing during registration. Campers will arrive between 8:30 and 9 am. Pick up time will be between 4:30 and 5:00pm.

Campers will be checked in and will join their Keir Clan. Campers will be served a nutritious lunch each day as well as snack and tuck. Supper will not be provided. Campers will participate in all of our regular summer activities each day; beach time, chapel, crafts, sports, wide games and many more just in their Keir Clans. While camp will look different we believe we can still have a lot of fun and provide the same quality experience your camper is used to.
